NHF working with Los Medicos Voladores

March 18th, 2009

The non–profit organization Los Medicos Voladores or “The Flying Doctors” has requested the Program Services of NHF to provide a specialized program with education materials in Spanish.  The program will focus on the importance of nutrition for treating and managing diabetes, as well as for managing overall wellness.

On explaining her reason for deciding to develop and donate materials, NHF President Vilma Andari says:  “I want to extend outreach–my end goal is to reach out to underserved communities, especially in Guatemala… to go home and help improve the well being of the indigenous people in rural areas, as I do here in underserved communities… I just share the same vision as them (LMV) in helping communities with limited health resources.”

About  Los Medicos Voladores »
LMV is a volunteer–based, non–profit organization comprised of doctors, nurses, pilots and various other volunteer staff who help improve the health and well being of the peoples of Mexico and Central America. By provisioning no–cost, high–quality healthcare and health–education clinics in rural villages, they improve villagers’ lives not only by treating their immediate health problems, but also by providing lasting tools that empower people to help themselves — including health education, especially for women and children.
